A choice of documentary films from Denmark.
New Baltic Cinema - A choice of film productions from the Baltic region – Lithuania, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Poland. The audience gets a chance to get familiar with cinema which, although less known in Poland, is definitely interesting and noteworthy. The presentations will be complemented by meetings with the curators: Sven Eggers (DE), Dorota Roszkowska (PL), and Arne Papenhagen (DE).

With a sadness to his voice and darkness to his face, 42-year-old Haider tells the story of his life in captivity during the 1991 Iraqi rebellion. Saddam Hussein had but recently deserted the war and left the war-stricken nation at its knees. While the past may be gloomy and filled with pain, Haider keeps positive and hopes that his children will lead a safe and dignified life here in Denmark.

In this intimate and experimental film, we meet the Danish-Turkish writer Ayse Dudu Tepe (Dudu) and her friend, filmmaker Lea Hjort Mathiesen. A seemingly harmless conversation between the women paves the way back into the home where Dudu grew up. In a rare mix between cinema and poetry, “My Desert Island” tells the story of a woman having to flee her family and cultural identity in order to build her own.

- Arne Papenhagen
Lives in Rostock. Since 2016 has been the director of FiSH (Festival im StadtHafen Rostock). He is part the festival team and has been presenting film events in the course of FiSH since 2008. From 2000 until 2011 he worked freelance as an editor, audio engineer, and author for documentary films. He was member of the film board jury of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and chairperson of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Film e.V. He has also worked in other film juries such as the Findling Award at the festival dokumentART in Neubrandenburg.

Producer and documentary film expert. She has worked as commissioning editor in the TVP 2 department of culture, where she was responsible for co-productions with the European TV network ARTE. Member of the European Film Academy and the Polish Filmmakers Association Board, president of the International Association “Future of Media.” Runs the Arkana film studio. Has produced films such as “Poste restante” (by Marcel Łoziński, European Film Award 2010); “The Mill and the Cross” (by Lech Majewski, based on Pieter Bruegel's painting “The Procession to Calvary”), “Honey Hunters” (by Krystian Matysek; nominated for Panda Awards, Wildscreen Festival, Bristol, UK).

Sven Eggers was born in 1972 in Berlin, where he now lives. His career began as an extra in his father’s Super 8 films. Founder and long-time programme director of the Tikozigalpa cinema in Wismar, which he managed from 1998-2003. In 2003 he founded the distribution company Schwimmer, and in 2013 the agency of the same name. Member of many international jurys (Schwerin, Cottbus, Tallinn, Karlovy Vary, New York). He gives film seminars and is programme director for small festivals. He also writes about architecture and film, and curates exhibitions.
