Let’s Talk Film – Sławomir Idziak & Cinebus

A new program highlight, dedicated to renowned representatives of the world of cinema, sharing their experience and vision with the festival audience. Their voice is especially important in times when film genre boundaries are increasingly fuzzy and productions – on one hand – are gradually becoming more and more expensive blockbusters, while – on the other – nearly everyone records their own audio and video. What is the condition of cinema today, and what challenges and new paths of development are currently faced by film art – we will find out during the Let’s Talk Film discussion. Our guest will be world-renowned cinematographer, universally known for his work on numerous films, including ones by Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Ridley Scott. Sławomir Idziak is also the author of the long-standing educational project Film Spring Open, which carries out the philosophy of “education through work,” as well as of his mobile film studio – Cinebus. By enabling the participants to acquire professional skills in times of audiovisual technology domination, Film Spring Open and Cinebus simultaneously allow the sampling of a future-oriented film production model.

Sławomir Idziak

Graduated from the Film School in Łódź. Accomplished cinematographer as well as director, screenwriter, and lecturer. Founder and chairman of the board of the Film Spring Open Foundation. As cinematographer he has done over 70 films in 19 countries, including “Black Hawk Down” by Ridley Scott. Sławomir Idziak successfully combines the career of renowned filmmaker with that of a lecturer. He is professor emeritus of Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (Department of Film and TV). For his work as cinematographer, as well as director, he has received numerous awards and distinctions at festivals in Gdynia, Berlin, Venice, Prague, Auckland, and nominations for BAFTA awards, a César, and an Oscar. He has received lifetime achievement awards at festivals in Marburg, Miskolc, and at Plus Camerimage.

The Film Spring Open Foundation has been working in artistic education for over a decade by organising workshops for filmmakers, among other things. It has been organising Film Spring Open-Air for years, a project that enables meetings between professional filmmakers and debutants, combined with topical lectures. Their latest endeavour is the mobile film studio – Cinebus. This unique, European-scale project allows for the production of small, intimate films, from the initial shots all the way to post-production, as well as for open-air screenings. All of this contained in a specially prepared bus brimming with modern technology and geared at professional filmmaking. Cinebus will make an appearance during SEFF ‘16 in Szczecin.

The Mobile Audiovisual Course for the Szczecin Academy of Art is organised in cooperation between the Film Spring Open Foundation and FILM SERVICES – Szczecin, co-funded by the West-Pomeranian Voivodeship and the City of Szczecin.
