Born in Münster (Westfalen), where she originally studied philosophy. She then went on to study German, History of Art, as well as Theatre, Film and Television in Frankfurt am Main. She now works as a freelance writer and curator, and has published numerous texts on film, theatre, photography, and media. In 2010 she was appointed Artistic Director of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival.
